When a ticket is set to pending reminder, after the time period has elapsed the ticket does not change back to open status. This should be the default since the ticket is no longer in a pending state… Time has passed, ticket is now requiring action.

This is intended, as a reached pending state will keep reminding you daily by default (as long as you’re in that state).
You can workaround that with a scheduler job similare to this one:
