WSoD with “View from user's perspective” while in Maintenance mode

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: zammad/unknown,now 5.1.0-1647422911.dbbd3095.bullseye amd64
  • Used Zammad installation type: apt

White screen of death with “View from user’s perspective” while in Maintenance mode

Expected behavior:

  • a visible error message + the option to go back
  • or – super fancy – the app would work despite Maintenance mode

Actual behavior:

  • White screen of death
  • Hidden HTTP error 403 on the background POST /api/v1/signshow request

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Enable Maintenance mode
  • Go for some user (an agent in my case), right click and…
  • View from user’s perspective

I’m afraid this is not possible as of because how Zammad functions in said situation.
The maintenance mode forbids all sessions that are not from administrators. When taking over a user, in that specific situation, your session does not come with administrative permissions.

You can workaround this by clearing your cookies or disabling the maintenance mode.
I honestly am not sure if we should thread this as a bug, it’s kinda edgy.

I can’t really make recommendations on handling this development wise.
All I can say is that such a WSoD is quite annoying (to handle user-wise).
