Upgrade to version 7 broken

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: 7.0.0-1774248034.c0c8a407.bookworm
  • Used Zammad installation type: apt
  • Operating system: Debian 12 bookworm

Expected behavior:

  • Working as expected after apt upgrade

Actual behavior:

  • Zammad broken, not starting
  • Log says: Error loading the ‘mysql2’ Active Record adapter. Missing a gem it depends on? mysql2 is not part of the bundle. Add it to your Gemfile.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Using Debian 12, with zammad version 6 + mysql installed by apt package manager.
  • Upgrade using: apt upgrade
  • Checked this behaviour on 8 systems running the same configuration. System broke after apt upgrade, each time

Of course, MySQL is no longer part of Zammad.
It’s been a announced deprecation since Zammad 6.0, roughly 1,5 to 2 years ago.

You’re expected to read the release notes, especially the breaking changes section. Migrate to PostgreSQL before upgrading to Zammad 7.
