SMTP under Email Notification does not work with Exchange-Online / Office 365


  • Used Zammad version: 3.1
  • Used Zammad installation source: source list
  • Operating system: Debian 9
  • Browser + version: Safari 13.03 / Firefox 70.0 / Chrome 78.0.3904.70

Expected behavior:

  • Adding an Exchange Online email via SMTP for Email Notification should work

Actual behavior:

  • Got the following error:

554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Submission.Exception:SendAsDeniedException.MapiExceptionSendAsDenied; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Cannot submit message. 0.35250:0A00AC80, 1.36674:0A000000, …


  • Under Outbound and Inbound it works but not under Email Notification.

This is the answer to your question.
Double check your exchange configuration and ensure that the notification sender address is allowed to send as the user you’re authenticating with.

If you don’t know what your notification sender address is, you can check it within email (channels) → Settings
