Sendmail with O365 - I can send via terminal but not through Zammad

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: 3.4
  • Used Zammad installation source: package
  • Operating system: Ubuntu
  • Browser + version: Chrome, Safari

Hello guys!
I can send emails through terminal command using sendmail but not via Zammad. I have added the outbound functionally only through the following command:

zammad run rails r "Channel.create!(area: 'Email::Account', options: { inbound: { adapter: 'null', options: {} }, outbound: { adapter: 'sendmail' } }, active: true, preferences: { editable: false }, updated_by_id: 1, created_by_id: 1)"

I can see the setting like this:

The color is orange, not green don’t know what that means.

Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @Achu you can see in the log of zammad and comment that appear when you try save this data; also i see that you try configure by command line but when you put the information of the mail server (sendmail) you have configure this services or postfix?.

@klausneil Thank you for your replay. The production.log looks like this

I setup postfix for the email service.

Well i see severals errors, you can edit your configuration and put the valor of server and ports an authentication metod

Also if this is a fisrt time configuration, why you make the authetication of emails by command line? you’re making a configuration special? and why your subject say “Sendmail with O365” if you have a postfix as a mail server?

I hope your response for can help you.

Hello @klausneil

I’m using O365 email account as sender, and this email account is NON-INBOX ID. I only need Zammad to send notification, not to receive any email with this account.

Thanks.

Hi @Achu well i use Office365 for send and receive email and all right, well if only you can send email firt you have configure “Channel–>Email–>Email notification–>Outgoing” and configure all the content with port 587

I’m not really sure what the goal is.
However:
In order for Zammad to send trigger based emails (or allowing reply by email within a ticket), you need to configure your group accordingly to provide the email address to that group.
See: https://admin-docs.zammad.org/en/latest/manage/groups/settings.html

The outbound signal will turn green upon first successful usuage. This means as soon as the channel did send the first mail out, the outbound will turn green. Inbound will stay yellow, as it’s not fetching at all and thus can’t solve that state. In terms of inbound you can safely ignore that.

The notification channel technically is something quite different from a normal mail- / google- / microsoft365- channel. The notification channel is the default channel for everytihng that affects resetting your user accounts password and ticket notifications for new tickets.

Notification channels do not require you to run console commands to configure them.
Right now I’m a bhit puzzled on what the exact issue and goal is, maybe you could describe your expactations in more detail?

Zammads notification channel is described here:
