hosting Zammad on apache2 keeps timing out

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: 6.3.1
  • Used Zammad installation type: package
  • Operating system: CentOS9

Expected behavior:

  • Using apache2 (httpd on CentOS9) to host Zammad should work (given that when using NGINX it works, but using apache2 it doesn’t)

Actual behavior:

  • Apache2 gives “Job for httpd.service failed because a timeout was exceeded”, nothing to be found why it times out in /var/logs/httpd/error.log or /opt/zammad/log/production.log
  • The weird thing is that Zammad’s web interface is accessible for a minute or 2 and when httpd then gives error, the web interface is no more accessible

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Install Zammad as package
  • Install ElasticSearch
  • Stop Nginx service
  • copy config file from /opt/zammad/contrib/apache2/zammad.conf to /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
  • add “Listen 80”, “User = apache, Group = apache” and required “LoadModules” to the config
  • Start httpd service
