501 HELO requires valid address when setting mail outbound

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: 6.1.0
  • Used Zammad installation type: docker-compose
  • Operating system: Ubuntu in a LXC container on Proxmox
  • Browser + version: On laptop, Firefox 119.0.1

Expected behavior:

  • Following the guide in Aruba’s hosting (that can be found here) I should be able to set the email channel for customers.

Actual behavior:

  • I’ve tried both the SSL and non SSL. for both configurations (SSL and non SSL). the inbound settings goes fine, but the outbound returns 501 HELO requires valid address when setting mail outbound when I set the user field as helpdesk@mydomain.com. By following aruba’s guidelines, with the same parameter fed to zammad I was able to setup both thunderbird and nextcloud’s outbound mail for the server.
  • I’ve also tried the same mail of nextcloud (in order to see if it was a problem of the specific helpdesk mailbox, even if I was able to set it up correctly in thunderbird).
  • I’ve also tried to put simply helpdesk instead of helpdesk@mydomain.it, but returns the same error (also because even from aruba’s website I use helpdesk@mydomain.it to log in to my mailbox).

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Setup Zammad with docker compose
  • Subscribe to Aruba and get a webmail
  • Try to set up that mail as email channel

Please read this documentation page, it will solve your issue.
