We are looking to self-host Zammad on a managed server located in Europe.
We have checked various hosting providers, but they do not offer root access. Is it possible to install Zammad with only SSH access (without root privileges)?
Also, could you please provide a list of the software dependencies required for Zammad to function properly?
Thank you.
There’s several managed server options, also in Europe. Most of them won’t give you full SSH access though.
Also, advertising other vendors is not allowed as per the community rules, so your request endangers the accounts of others.
Why would you need SSH access for Zammad so desperately instead of just going for a SaaS approach and let the provider handle everything for you?
Usually you either manage yourself or are managed. I personally (strongly) believe, that both is not possible in a good way. At least not, if the provider wants to provide certain SLAs and guarantees the service is up . That usually bites with customers fiddling around.
Please have a look at the documentation … Zammad System Documentation — Zammad System Documentation documentation
We want to install Zammad as a self-hosted solution. For that, we are looking for a “fully managed server”.
We require “root access” so we can install and configure Zammad ourselves, which is why “SSH access” is essential.
Could you please explain the “SaaS approach” in more detail? I’m not entirely clear on it and might be missing something.
The goal is simple: we need a fully managed server so we don’t have to worry about security, maintenance, or other infrastructure concerns — and we want to start using Zammad as soon as possible.
We’ve already looked into providers like hetzner, netcup, scaleway.com, etc.
I’m sure others have dealt with this situation and might have practical solutions. I’m not looking for vendor advertisements — just real, experience-based recommendations.
Thanks.
In my humble opinion you’re either looking for a managed SaaS (like zammad.com …) or a selfhosted experience.Installing services still can harm the safety of the system and a managed hosting provider unlikely will take that risk or harden those kind of things for you.
If you want to absolute worry free setup of Zammad, zammad.com is your best bet in my opinion.
