Zammad 6.1 fails to email via Office 365 occasionally, seems to be ipv6 related

Infos:

  • Used Zammad version: 6.1 (latest Ubuntu 20 package)
  • Used Zammad installation type: Ubuntu 20 package
  • Operating system: Ubuntu 20 LTS
  • Browser + version: Any, but Chrome etc

Expected behavior:

  • The system replies to the customer with SMTP

Actual behavior:

  • The system produces an error and apparently gives up entirely on emailing, no retries later. An error notice pops up “Errno:EAFNOSUPPORT: Address family not supported by protocol - socket(2)” - earlier in the week and late last week, we had errors that stated "ENETUNRQACH Network is unreachable connect (2) for (ipv6-address:587) where ipv6 address is an actual ipv6 address.

This system has been in use some time and has sent many an email. I’m seeing similar behavior on a second system we also have set up.

This did not happen before a relatively recent upgrade in place from Zammad 5 to Zammad 6.1 (some weeks back).

The day before yesterday I went in on the Unbuntu side and disabled ipv6 by changing a parameter in Grub. The hope was that that would cure the system of trying to use ipv6 which we don’t have set up properly anyway. Now we have this new error that doesn’t have an ipv6 ip in it but behaves identically.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Reply to a customer and it occasionally spits out an error.

Would appreciate any ideas on what might be causing this.

SaaS completely uses IPv4 and IPv6 and there are no issues related to IPv6 in Zammad scope. This might be a local issue with your machine or network - but not a general one with Zammad or Microsoft I am afraid.
