I use a different port for my system. As I understand it, I can also get a certificate via a TXT entry under _acme-challenge.domain.tdl. Correct?

That depends on your approach. Either use acme.sh (GitHub - acmesh-official/acme.sh: A pure Unix shell script implementing ACME client protocol) or certbot (https://certbot.eff.org/) and consult their documentation for steps that fit your environment best.
